Just outside Queenstown is a quaint little former goldmining town called Arrowtown. Clearly geared to appeal to weekenders, it’s chock-a-block with cute cafes and shops (a couple of which I had to exercise serious restraint to avoid bringing home everything).

The rest of the day was spent in the nearby Gibbston Valley enjoying the offerings of stunning wineries.

We chose to stay in Arrowtown instead of Queenstown, and I think it was one of the best decisions we made. Was great to look around Queenstown, but lovely to rest our heads in such a lovely and quiet ‘village’.

  • For sure, I could easily have spent more time there.

Funny you should mention an old Gold town today.
My hubby was just reading me an article about 3 ghost towns in Northern Canada left over from the great Canadian gold rush, which are now re inhabited because the current price of Gold is so high it’s now worth mining and prospecting again..
