I had recently heard about fillable baubles and got thinking about the possibilities. When I found them at the store, though, I was disappointed. There was a huge rim around the middle and they were made of thick plastic rather than clear, fine glass. Hmm. Then I remembered that glass baubles actually have quite a large hole at the top if you remove the hanger.
Obviously you have to choose objects that are flexible enough to fit through the hole. I opted for some fluffy white feathers and an appropriate photo (can you see the ‘My first Christmas’ bib?)
You will need:
- Large clear glass baubles
- Photograph or feathers
- Tweezers
- Clear nylon thread
1. Remove the metal hanger by squeezing the wire.
2. Insert your object through the hole.
3. If you are using a photo, you will need to roll it up first.
4. Uncurl the photo or rearrange feather using tweezers.
5. Replace the metal hanger.
6. Attach a loop of nylon thread for hanging.
If you have any other suggestions of what to fill them with, share with us in the comments.

What about pushing in some glittery pipe cleaners.
Lovely ideas..
What about painting the inside. Just with tester pots or poster paint… you could just swirl it around and dump out the excess.
Or white glue and glitter, you could get some pretty effects with that.
Or what about suspending tiny bottons by attatching them to the top with fishermans line and some hot glue. It would look like they were hanging in space..
Ooh Ooh or Jelly Bellys..

Oh I love the idea of suspending something in there. For the Jelly Bellys you’d need to add a sticker that says ‘Break glass in case of emergency’.
Great ideas, keep ‘em coming!
I love your one with the photo! That looks great. I like making the clear glass ornaments with little bits of colored yarn or sequins in them.
I’m having a giveaway on my blog if you’d like to stop by!

Love that idea about the Jelly Bellys.. gotta use that somehow !!
I thought of another one too.. a nicely printed or galigraphied name tucked inside and used instead of a name card holder at the table.

Crabtree and Evelyn have some lovely decorated glass baubles for sale.
I pushed in clear lights (leaving some of the strand exposed in between the ornaments) and set them up on a shelf. It was so pretty I left it up until after Valentine’s Day.
Sounds gorgeous, I might just have to steal that idea!
