Tips & Tricks - Easter decorations in egg cartons

Back when I showed you my blue and gold handpainted eggs, I mentioned that it was my first attempt at decorating Easter eggs. What I may not have told you is that it was also the first time I have put up any kind of decor for Easter.

Fast forward a few weeks and I realised I needed to work out a way to store my new holiday decorations. A recycled egg carton was perfect! They’re now protected until next year.

P.S. It’s the last day of the month, which means there’s a new Book Nook coming up. If you haven’t already, check out the review of April’s feature book Mom, Inc. and let me know what you thought of it!

Do you love the look of gallery walls but can’t work out how to perfect the layout other than hammering away and hoping for the best?

Just lay out the frames flat on the floor, starting with the largest item and working your way out, and tweak the arrangement until it’s pleasing to your eye. Then hang them one by one, remembering to hammer in each hook at the correct distance from the top of the frame.

If you’ve got a huge collection to arrange, you can take it one step further by cutting out pieces of butcher paper the size of each frame and arranging them with blu-tack until you’re happy with it. Then hang each piece, removing the corresponding paper before doing so.

 medicine storage in shoe hanger

What to do when two people share a small bathroom vanity with no medicine cabinet? Make use of otherwise wasted space on the inside of a closet door and hang a shoe organiser to store medicines. Assign a pocket for each category (e.g. cold & flu, painkillers, prescriptions) and you’ll have easy access to everything. After all, when you’ve already got a pounding headache or bleeding finger the last thing you need is to be rummaging around at the back of a cupboard to find the first aid.

One of the most frustrating things when you are decorating is finding something while out shopping but not knowing if it will fit when you get home.

Start a notebook listing the dimensions of everything from those unframed prints to the space that your ideal bookcase will fit into. Bonus points if you also paste in paint chips and fabric swatches for perfect colour matching every time.

That way, you can grab that bargain tablecloth being confident that it will be the perfect fit for your table.
